The Best Eco Friendly Products For Sleep

1. Magnesium

Magnesium is an incredible supplement to support your body as it prepares to rest for the night. In recent years it has gotten more and more popular so you can find it in many different forms such as powder to mix in water/juice, gummies, pills, droppers.

You can even absorb magnesium externally through products like bath soaks, body washes, lotion and sprays.

I highly recommend checking out the Sunwarrior magnesium because it comes in an easy to use dropper and is organic.

Why we love Sunwarrior:

  • 100% vegan
  • USDA organic certified
  • Manufactured in the USA
  • Recyclable packaging
  • Made from 100% post consumer recycled materials

2. Organic bedding from Pact

Since we are supposed to spend roughly 8 hours asleep per day, that ends up being a pretty hefty portion of our lives spent in our sheets.

Because of this, it’s important to be mindful of what we are wrapped up in while we snooze.

Pacts bedding is incredible because it is non toxic and uses organic material. Their sheets come in a variety of shades and if you want an organic PJ set to go with, they have them!

Why we love Pact:

  • Organic
  • Fair trade
  • Carbon neutral

3. Eye mask from Eucalypso

When I first started using an eye mask my sleep changed dramatically. I thought only people in movies wore eye masks so I never really took them seriously. But if there is anything on this list I could recommend twice it would be sleep masks!

They block out so much light and once you get into the habit of wearing one your  body will recognize that once your eye mask is strapped on, it’s time to shut down

Since your eye mask will be on your face, I suggest checking out this organic sleep mask option from Eucalypso. That way you don’t have funky chemicals leeching into your skin as you sleep.

Why we love Eucalypso:

  • Fair Trade
  • BIPOC owned
  • Vegan
  • Woman Owned
  • Made from certified organic eucalyptus
  • OEKO-TEX® certified

4. Non toxic mattress from Avocado

I have been sleeping on an avocado mattress for 4 years and I really cannot recommend it more!

Avocado mattresses conveniently can be shipped to your home. After you open it and wait a few hours it springs alive. It is pretty shocking that a mattress that comes in a box is as comfortable as it is! It doesn’t have a strong scent either which is great since you can open it in the morning and sleep on it by bedtime.

The best part of the avocado mattress is definitely all of the certifications and care they put into creating ethically made mattresses that are not harmful to you or the planet.

Why we love Avocado:

  • GOTS & GOLS CERTIFIED organic materials
  • CERTIFIED B CORPORATION
  • Climate neutral
  • Fair trade
  • Certified vegan
  • Pinnacle award winner from 1% for the planet
  • Zero waste certified manufacturers

5. Thrifted light blocking curtains to cool the room

To ensure you get your solid 8 hours, consider investing in light blocking curtains. Not only will the curtains keep the light out but it will also keep your bedroom cool throughout the day for any cat naps you can fit in.

A naturally cooler room is a  great way to reduce energy consumption by not having to run your air conditioning as much too!

We don’t have a specific recommendation for light blocking curtains that are eco friendly but there are plenty of thick curtains at most thrift stores. Just be sure to be positive they’re thick enough to block light and wash them really well!

6. Bedtime tea from Pukka

As you start to wind down, prepare a nice warm cup of bedtime tea to pair with your evening rituals.

Of course, everyone’s body is different but adding in herbs like lavender, found in Pukka teas night time tea, can naturally sooth your body to a place of peace.

Why we love Pukka:

  • USDA Organic
  • 1% for the planet
  • Fair for life fair trade
  • Fair Wild
  • Certified B Corp

7. Wind down activity

As we all know, screens before bed is not ideal.

Brainstorm some calming activities you can do to help your body prepare for a great night of sleep.

This tips isn’t a product per say but it is important to find ways to decompress to elevate your sleep hygiene so we had to add it to the list!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Knitting
  • Reading
  • Light cleaning if that is relaxing for you
  • Journaling
  • Coloring
  • Gentle yoga
  • Meditation
  • Sitting outside and listening to nature sounds
  • Watching the sunset

8. Relaxing candle

Getting great sleep really begins with your stress levels being low and your body being fully relaxed.

Aromatherapy is a great way to slow down your mind and settle into your space.

To create a cozy atmosphere consider picking up a sustainably made candle from P.F. Candle.
