I personally find it SO convenient to have sustainability apps on my phone environment. By seeing them daily it encourages me to make more eco-conscious choices which can be done with the touch of a screen.

I cover a wide variety of zero waste topics with this list so you will for sure find an app that works for your lifestyle and goals!

This post is all about the best zero waste apps

How to Use Apps for your Zero Waste Lifestyle

1. Share Waste App

As amazing as composting is some of us just don’t have the space or time to do it. Why not send your compost to someone who does? The Share Waste app connects users to people in their community that are willing to take compost!

All you have to do is make an account and then locate your nearest drop off area.

Best of all the Share Waste app is free!

2. Poshmark App

This is by far the absolute best app for thrifting and selling clothes! Dropping off a bag of clothes to the thrift store is a common way that most people dispose of clothes when they are done using them (or sometimes never used them!).

Unfortunately, a good portion of clothing that gets donated does not make it to a new home to be used but actually ends up in the landfill

A better option is to use an app like Poshmark to sell your clothes!

Poshmark is great because you can sort the clothing by size, brand, color etc. to help buyers find exactly what they are looking for! You will divert clothes from going to landfills and make some money while you’re at it!

3. Recycle Nation App

If you do not have curbside recycling pick up it can be extremely difficult to recycle!

That’s why the Recycle Nation app is so helpful. All you have to do is type in the item you are trying to recycle and your zip code. The app then shows you all of the places nearby where you can recycle your item!

If you just want to browse around you can look through their categories which include a lot of items! They have categories for more common items like glass and metal but options for more specific stuff too!

Here’s a list of items I think are kind of random but you may not think to recycle:

  • Holiday lights
  • Hoverboards
  • Solar panels
  • Projectors
  • Legos
  • You car

Ok so that list was mostly for fun but also to get you thinking about all the various items we might just pitch in the trash simply because we don’t know WHERE to recycle them

Get this app downloaded now so the next time you are decluttering you have no excuse to let random items go to the landfill that can be recycled

4. Pinterest App

This one might surprise you but I think Pinterest is an incredible app for eco-conscious living! You can find plenty of inspiration for things like:

  • DIY zero waste crafts
  • Homemade zero waste cleaning recipes
  • Crafts made from repurposed materials
  • Zero waste kitchen organization tips
  • Zero waste food recipes
  • Furniture restoration tips
  • And even tips for things that aren’t necessarily zero waste but eco conscious like plant based recipes!

If you are used to relying on Pinterest for home decor or fashion inspiration give it a try for zero waste tips too! There is a tons of great information on there. You never know what new project you will find!

5. Facebook Market Place App

Similar to clothing, a good portion of household goods that are donated to the thrift store do not end up being purchased but rot away in a landfill.

Basically, anything and everything can be sold on the Facebook Market place app!

Some popular items on the Facebook marketplace app are:

  • Sports equipment
  • Furniture
  • Cars
  • Household items
  • House plants
  • Baby stuff
  • and much more!

6. Food Checklist App

Food waste is a major issue but luckily there are zero waste food apps like the Food Checklist app

It is super helpful because you can account for the food you have in your home, keep track of when it will expire, and even add a shopping list!

We are all guilty of forgetting about food in our fridge but by having all of your food accounted for in this app you can minimize the chance of it expiring before you can use it.

This may seem tedious but if you tend to waste a good amount of food it could help you get back on track!

7. CozZo App

This zero waste food app is pretty impressive! It includes everything that the food checklist app does and more!

Not only can you keep a food inventory and shopping list but also recipes and meal planners.

One of my favorite features of the app is that once you import all of the food you have in your home onto the app it offers recipe suggestions. And there are tons of recipes! How convenient is that?!

If you don’t like their selection of recipes they also have a feature where you can add in your own homemade recipes.

The CozZo app is chocked full of ways to make the most of the food in your home and reduce food waste while you’re at it!
