Recreate These Adorable Valentine’s Cookie Decorating Ideas This Year
This post is all about Valentine’s cookie decorating ideas
Decorating Valentine’s cookies is the best way to celebrate the holiday! It is a super fun solo activity, or they make great gifts and of course, throwing a cookie decorating party is fun too!
I wanted to compile some Valentine’s cookie designs for you to get inspired by as you start baking. I love to use sugar cookies but you can use whatever your favorite cookie is for the base!
Even if you wouldn’t consider yourself a pro baker or artist there will be plenty of beginner-friendly decorating ideas on this list that anyone can do!
Simple Valentine’s Cookie Decorating Ideas
1. Pastel conversation hearts or sweetheart cookies
I love this twist on candy hearts! All you need is heart-shaped cookies, icing, and food coloring.
Use white icing and just a touch of food coloring to achieve that pastel look.
Use a smaller cookie cutter on top of your sugar cookies to keep the icing in the center of the cookie. This set comes with various sizes of cookie-cutter hearts to achieve the look!
2. Marbelized hearts with gold flakes
These marble heart cookies are absolutely stunning and are not too complicated to recreate.
Start with a base of white icing and add a few drops of red food coloring.
Make sure the icing is a bit warm so your toothpick can guide through it to get that marble effect. Drag your toothpick through the icing to get a tie-dye look.
Finish it off with these beautiful edible gold flakes!
3. Bright red velvet cookies with white hearts
Bake some red velvet sugar cookies and don’t forget lots of red food coloring!
Then melt these white chocolate chips, pour them into heart shaped molds, let them freeze and you will have perfect hearts to add on top of your cookies or other Valentine’s desserts!

4. Bright pink sugar cookies with unique Valentine’s sprinkles
Add some hot pink food coloring to your sugar cookies! Drizzle on some white frosting. Make sure it is warm so it creates thin strips.
Then add some perfectly pink Valentine themed sprinkles on top! These have mini roses with pink, gold, and silver accents.
5. Perfectly piped bouquet looking sugar cookies
Ok so these look difficult but I promise they aren’t! They do take more time and some patience so they aren’t the best on this list if you are needing a last minute cookie design.
All you need are some simple piping tools and your sugar cookies as a base.
Add simple dots with your piping tool but be sure to keep them close together. Use different sizes and colors to bring some variety to the cookies as well!
6. Romantic cookies with rose petals
If you’re not one for bright colors, all these simple cookies require is white frosting and edible rose petals.
I love the soft look of these cookies and the rose petals make them perfectly romantic.
7. Classic sugar cookies with fun borders and sprinkles
These are similar to the conversation hearts but with a twist!
Use a thin piping tip to add borders like squiggles, dots, or lines.
I also found these adorable organic edible pink stars you can add on top as well! Super cute!
8. Chocolate dipped sugar cookie hearts
Dip half of your heart-shaped cookies in chocolate (or white chocolate!) for an addition to a simple sugar cookie.
You can leave them as is or add some multi-colored sprinkles on top!
9. Sweet smiley faces for round Valentine’s cookies
I love these trendy Valentine’s cookies! All you need are round cookie cutters to get the cookies perfectly round.
You can make heart eyes that pop off the cookie with the method mentioned before or simply use red icing!
10. Strawberry heart shortbread cookies
If you love strawberries, these cookies are for you! Just make normal sugar cookies and add these dried strawberries into your frosting or layer them on top!
I love the added natural sweetness that the berries add.
11. Valentine’s cookies with a bow
I had to save the best for last! I am so obsessed with these cookies.
Wait until your cookies are cooled down to poke holes in the edges. Then string delicate lace or ribbons through the holes and tie a bow on top!
Of course, edible ribbons don’t exist, but I think these would be absolutely perfect as party food and decor for a Galentine’s party!
