The Best Homemade Christmas Table Decoration Ideas

1. Make a DIY apple candle with added Christmas scents

For a cheap and beautiful table decor idea, scoop out the inside of apples. Then fill them with candle wax to make your own DIY Christmas candles!

I suggest adding some essential oils to the wax to give your table a festive scent. Spearmint, vanilla, or spruce are all great oils that will have your home smelling divine.

2. Upcycle wine bottles for candle stick holders as an easy centerpiece

Hold onto those wine bottles before recycling them!

Clean them out and use them to hold candlesticks that will make your Christmas table look perfectly elegant.

You can paint the bottles, add bows, or even fill them with mini ornaments, cranberries, or pine needles.

3. Mini Christmas wreath at table settings

Collect some pine needles that drop from your Christmas tree to decorate your table settings. Bend them to make a circle and then add a simple festive ribbon or twine for a more rustic look.

These little wreaths at each placemat are a sweet touch that guests will appreciate. Sometimes the small details make the biggest impact!

4. Mini bouquets at place settings using natural elements

Using dried flowers (or paper flowers!) create mini festive bouquets at each place setting.

Again, a simple bow is the perfect touch for a festive look. I love these because, at the end of the night, each guest can take home their bouquet to remember the gathering!

5. Branches and ornaments for a stunning Christmas table centerpiece

Create a tall Christmas centerpiece made of branches you can probably find in your backyard! All you need is some branches, a vase, and some ornaments

If you are creating a rustic Christmas tablescape, this centerpiece will match perfectly and even bring a bit of sparkle.

6. Simple paper sign wishing a Merry Christmas

At the end of your table, string up a Christmas banner to wish your guests a festive message!

All you need is some festive patterned paper or even cardboard and some paint. Cut out your letters and string them up on a wall near your table!

If you love to sew you could even create a letter banner from fabric or felt that you can reuse year after year!

7. Mini Christmas tree and ornaments as the focal point

When you go to cut down your Christmas tree, buy a few extra branches to create a mini tree for your Christmas table decor!

This idea is similar to the branch idea earlier but offers a fuller look. Don’t forget to add your favorite ornaments to it!

Pick up some magnolia leaves to create a stunning natural table runner or centerpiece.

I love to mix in ornaments or fairy lights to give the table that cozy feel.

Keep things super simple with a single green ribbon on each plate.

Lay the ribbon in a zig-zag formation and add a gold star at the top for a classic yet minimal Christmas tree.

Go all-natural for your table runner by foraging pine needles, pine cones, or any other natural materials you can find to make a festive spread down your table.

Leave room for plates, drinks, and dishes but don’t be afraid to go all out and cover the empty spaces with natural treasures. This is what really gives a tablescape an abundant look without spending a bunch of money!

11. Painted pinecones with added cute bows or a piece of ribbon to hang them up

Save some pine cones to paint! As you make your other Christmas decor, keep a few pine cones to spruce up.

You can add white paint to the tips of them to look like snow or cover them completely in colorful paint for an eclectic look!

Scatter ornaments around the dinner table! Not just regular ornaments though. Fill them with sparkles or paint to give them an added touch.

Be sure to keep the ornaments at the center of the dinner table or secure them down. You don’t want them to get knocked off and shatter! I love the traditional look a few ornaments can have on a Christmas table.

15. Crochet snowflakes as party favors for dinner guests

If you know how to crochet, create a few snowflakes for each setting. It is a small touch but it keeps the festive vibe going.

I love these because you can reuse them each year or they make a simple party favor! Guests can hang them on their Christmas trees when they get home!

16. Classic bouquet of fresh flowers at the center of the table

Support a local farmer and pick up a Christmas bouquet! If you have a farmhouse Christmas table theme these will look stunning in a ceramic pitcher.

It can be easy to skip over flowers and greenery in the colder months but you can never go wrong by adding flowers to a tablescape!
