How to find affordable yoga classes
It is so upsetting that people don’t do yoga because yoga classes can be really expensive.
And I can totally relate! These tips come directly from my own experience of struggling to find affordable yoga classes and then eventually being successful!
To find affordable yoga classes you can consider trying virtual yoga classes (some are free!), avoiding boutique yoga studios and choosing community centers or gyms, and taking advantage of celebratory deals that studios frequently offer.
The Best Tips For Finding Affordable Yoga Classes
1. Avoid yoga studios and opt for community centers, gyms, and spiritual centers
As yoga becomes more popular outside of India, more and more places are starting to offer yoga classes. Some centers are even offering different styles of yoga outside of traditional vinyasa classes.
If you ever see a donation-based class (also called pay what you can) this is a great budget-friendly option for finding yoga classes!
And it is exactly what it sounds like, you simply pay whatever you can. Generally, there is a suggested amount of about $10 but it truly is a way to make yoga more accessible to more people so look into it!
2. Sign up for Groupon
If you haven’t heard of Groupon you should look into it! They offer deals on many different services and activities which is great because you can try a few different yoga studios.
Aside from utilizing Groupon deals, you can also hop on the email list for the studio you want to go to or follow them on social media.
That way, if they have any random special deals you are first to know about them. I have seen studios offer discounted classes for holidays, a summer sale, and black Friday.
A lot of times when new studios open they offer an introductory deal as well!
3. Opt for online yoga classes-many are free!
You don’t even need to leave the comfort of your home to experience the power of yoga! There are countless online “yoga studios” to check out.
Of course, I have to plug my own classes which can be found for free on Youtube at Sustain Life Journal Yoga.
Most of the classes are 20 minutes of yoga and 5 minutes of meditation that way you have a complete morning mindfulness practice to set you up for a great day!

4. Take advantage of newcomers deals
I would say basically every yoga studio offers some kind of new student deal that can range anywhere from your first class free to two weeks of unlimited yoga at a really discounted rate.
You could even hop around from a few different studios to take advantage of these deals too!
There’s no shame in chasing a good deal!
5. Commit to yoga studio classes for fewer days per week
This tip may seem obvious and maybe a bit disappointing. But for now, maybe consider going to studio yoga classes 1-2 days per week until you can budget for more classes!
If you found a local studio you really love but can’t make the monthly unlimited payments it’s totally ok to pay the drop-in rate for each class. You could even combine your studio class with free classes at home (or other styles of mindfulness practices!).
Even one yoga class per week is a great way to practice mindfulness and is a form of a consistent yoga practice! Your body and mind will thank you!

6. Consider doing a work trade program at a local yoga studio
Did you know you can volunteer in yoga studios in exchange for free classes? Some yoga studios may have a work exchange program set up but more local yoga studios may not so just talk with the owner! This will really depend on the studio.
Basically, you will do tasks around the studio to help support it for free or discounted classes. Here are some examples of tasks you may do:
- cleaning, mostly cleaning, to be honest
- organizing yoga props
- restocking the studio store
- assisting with events, retreats etc.
- doing laundry
- checking people into class
- helping with marketing and social media content
When I did a work trade program at a yoga studio I got a free unlimited amount of classes which was incredible!
Just be sure to ask yourself if it is a fair exchange and talk to the studio owner if the exchange feels off balance!
7. Exchange yoga classes for other services (massage, baked goods etc.)
Bartering is still a thing! If you have a skill that is in demand, you could exchange your skill for a yoga class. Generally, this would be a private session with a yoga teacher. Just ask around!
Here are some ideas of things yoga teachers may be interested in exchanging you for (but you know your community best)!
- Massage
- Reiki session
- Meal preps
- Homemade crafts or baked goods
*of course be mindful that it’s an equal exchange but you never know what a yoga teacher could really value in exchange for a yoga class with them
