Black History Month Door Ideas

1. Positive affirmations and powerful leaders

Highlight multiple powerful leaders throughout history on your door!

I love that this one mixes positive affirmations and connects them perfectly to each historical figure.

Use various fonts and a bright background behind the photos to really make the door pop!

2. Beautiful hair, powerful message & inspiring leaders

I think this door is my favorite on the list!

To make the curls, cut strips of paper, bend them into a rounded shape, and then staple them to your background. You can leave the beautiful curls and coils just as they are or add in a headwrap for a pop of color.

Add in some photos of black leaders to make the outfit of your person.

3. February/Valentines + Black History Month combo door

Don’t want to redecorate your door twice in February?

Simply mix in some of the Valentine’s vibe with your Black History Month decor by including quotes about the power of love.

4. A combo of historical leaders and family members/community members

Include everyone in your door decorations! It is easy to just think of putting famous figures on our doors but we have people in our own lives that we can celebrate for Black History Month too!

Get your students, coworkers, or community members to stick on photos of their family members that inspire them.

This personalized door is the perfect way to honor the historical side of Black History Month while also honoring the contributions our community members and family are currently making!

5. Include your favorite quote

Make your door centered around your favorite quote. The one above by Martin Luther King Junior is a classic and shares a powerful message about positivity and resiliency.

And the heart afro is absolutely stunning and perfect for Valentine’s Day!

6. Choose one historical figure to highlight

Rather than a quote or honoring multiple historical figures, just go with one! Your class or office could even vote on who they want to honor this year.

Each year you can change it up and choose a new person!

7. Keep it simple with a “We Love Black History Month” message

If you are short on time or can’t decide what you want to do, keep it simple with a door design signifying that it’s Black History Month!

I love the doors with facts where people can stop and learn about Black History Month facts but sometimes a simple door to celebrate is ok too!

8. “We Have a Dream” door design

Use the Martin Luther King Junior quote “I have a dream” from his famous speech to encourage everyone to share what their dream for a better world is!

Next to your door, you could include a printout of his full speech or a brief description of him.

9. “Honoring the Past & Inspiring the Future” door design

Black History Month is an important time where we can learn and reflect on the past but also celebrate and be optimistic about the future! I love how this door reflects that simplistic message.
