1. DIY Halloween crafts for Halloween decor
Use the craft supplies in your home to make adorable Halloween crafts!
These can be used as Halloween decor, Halloween party decor or just done for fun! Rather than buying expensive craft supplies, find ways to repurpose items around your home and use the crafting items you already have.
DIY Halloween crafts with stuff from home
- Chalkboard Halloween signs with cute sayings or greetings (or on the sidewalk!)
- Repurpose and paint tin cans as Halloween characters
- Paint stones to make Halloween monsters (use acrylic paint for this)
- Make Halloween spider webs out of twine/yarn and sticks
- Make DIY masks out of paper plates, paint, markers etc.
2. Create a Halloween neighborhood scavenger hunt
Create a list of different Halloween items around your neighborhood for your kids to find!
You could even invite your neighbor kids to join in on the fun as well. It can be super fun to create teams and print off homemade awards for the winning team!
Be sure to choose things that involve Halloween to keep it festive such as pumpkins, bats, witches hat, cobwebs, black cat etc. If your neighborhood isn’t big on decorating, consider going to a friends neighborhood and organizing the scavenger hunt there!

3. Enjoy free Halloween coloring pages

4. Check out Halloween online puzzles or escape rooms
If you have older kids they will absolutely love these free online puzzles and escape rooms that are Halloween themed. They are not too spooky but definitely made for older kids.
Since they are strategy games they’re not only fun but get their brain juices flowing as well.
5. Halloween books from the library
Stop by the library to pick up some Halloween themed picture books or chapter books. Your local library will probably have a table set up with all the best Halloween books for kids and they might even have free Halloween programming to come back and enjoy.

If you have toddlers, plenty of their toddler friendly favorite shows will come out with a special Halloween themed episode or there are toddler shows on youtube for free! The shows above aren’t too spooky but are probably better for elementary aged kids.

7. Haunted house obstacle course
Turn your living room into a fun Halloween themed obstacle course using blankets, pillows and couch cushions. Set the scene with spooky music and use cones or hula hoops to further the story line and difficulty of the course.
Between your creativity and your kids imagination this is a Halloween game your kids are sure to enjoy!
8. Enjoy a Halloween playlist and have a dance party
Turn on some Halloween music and dance! Kids love to get their wiggles out through dance and it’s even more fun if you find ways to make it a bit more spooky.
You can make free “tickets”, wear Halloween costumes or wear glow in the dark outfits. This is a super fun and free way to enjoy the spooky season and get active at home.
9. Bake Halloween treats with ingredients you already have
A little orange food coloring can go a long way when making Halloween themed treats. From cookies to cakes there are plenty of homemade Halloween snacks you can make with ingredients that are already in your kitchen.

11. Walk/bike around and look at Halloween decorations
Looking at Christmas lights is a holiday classic but why not do the same with Halloween decorations?
Ask around and see what neighborhoods go all out for the holiday and make a special trip to go check them out. Whether you drive, bike or walk it is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit.
12. Trick or treating on Halloween night
The ultimate free Halloween activity is of course trick or treating! Maybe this year mix things up and check out a new neighborhood or enjoy trunk or treat at your local community center.
