Brilliant Makeup Storage Ideas To Calm Your Bedroom Vanity or Bathroom Counter Clutter
This post is all about smart makeup storage ideas to organize your vanity, bathroom drawers, or desk!
Makeup clutter can get wild, fast! I don’t have a huge makeup collection, but even with a more minimal collection, it’s been super important to have some kind of system to keep it organized.
Without having a makeup organization system its really easy to overspend on makeup because you truly can’t see what you already have. I’ve also found that makeup gets lost, and then by the time you find it again, it has expired, thus having to throw it away and wasting money.
The storage systems below will work for all sizes of makeup collections, and I included a variety of systems for bathroom drawers, bedroom vanities, and even some on-the-go makeup storage ideas.
I’ll also share a few makeup decluttering tips to ensure that you truly are only buying what you need and don’t have an overwhelming collection of stuff!

Makeup decluttering tips

Before we dive into the specific makeup organizers, let’s cover a few tips for making sure that what you organize is stuff you truly love and actually use!
- Throw out expired products (especially mascara, liquid liner, and cream products).
- Get rid of anything that smells off, has changed texture, or causes irritation.
- Declutter by category (face, eyes, lips) instead of all at once to avoid overwhelm.
- Keep only the shades you actually wear, not ones you might wear someday.
- Limit duplicates: choose your favorite version and let the rest go.
- If you haven’t used it in the last 6–12 months, consider letting it go.
- Store everyday makeup separately from special-occasion products.
- Avoid buying backups unless it’s something you truly use daily.
- Do a quick declutter every season to keep clutter from building back up.
Best Makeup Storage Hacks

Clear shelves wall makeup organizer

If you like to be able to see all of your products, these clear shelves will be a game-changer for you!
They’re super easy to install and ensure that your bathroom countertops or vanity are clear of makeup clutter.
They’re pretty sturdy, so whether you’re storing skincare, makeup, or even some makeup tools, they can be compactly displayed on a few simple shelves!
Spinning countertop makeup organizer

Don’t let any of your makeup products get lost in the back of your drawers again!

Repurpose jars for organized makeup brushes

The cheapest idea on the list! Collect any jars or vases you no longer use and repurpose them as makeup brush holders. You could also use old candle containers for smaller items like lip gloss.
Sometimes you don’t need a fancy new organizer to keep your stuff tidy, and what you already have will do.
If you don’t have any old containers, you can always thrift pretty bowls, jars, or even tool boxes to keep your makeup tidy.
This paste is super helpful if you need to get labels off of your jars!
Bathroom makeup organizer tray

Stunning right?! A makeup tray feels very old Hollywood to me. Why not bring some of that glam into your routine?
The most unique trays will probably be found at the thrift store, or you could even DIY a cutting board with some paint to create a more modern-looking place to store makeup.
As long as it’s wide enough, the tray should fit over your bathroom sink, so as you get ready, your bathroom counter space expands.
Of course, you would need a pretty minimal makeup collection to make this work. If you want a smaller tray for your bathroom counter, here are a few super cute options:
Mini shelf makeup organizer

If you have some extra space on your desk or vanity, a small makeup shelf may be perfect for you. You could even keep your everyday or most used items on the shelf and then keep your special occasion makeup organized in the drawers of your vanity.
Desk or vanity cart organizer

Ok this makeup organizer is for the girlies with the larger collection.
Rolling carts are perfect because their depth can house your entire collection beautifully, especially if you have smaller storage boxes to keep everything in.
Rolling storage carts make it easy to move your makeup sesh if you share your home with others and need to let someone else use the bathroom!
Hidden vanity organizer

Get rid of allll the visual clutter and opt for a counter top makeup organizer.
Sometimes it’s fun to see all of your beauty products displayed beautifully, and other times, for peace of mind its just nice to have it store away.
This is especially true if your get-ready area is in your bedroom, and you want the space to remain calm and organized.

Makeup drawer organizers

I personally like to use a simple drawer organizer to keep my makeup contained. I put it in my bathroom drawer and simply pull it out when it’s time to get ready.
There are soooo many different organizers to choose from whether you want a natural look with bamboo or clear plastic organizers that are easy to clean.
If you don’t feel like spending money, you can easily diy your makeup organizers and upcycle boxes. No one will see them anyway if they’re in your drawers!
Makeup bag organizer

If you have read through this post and decided some of these options just look too bulky, you can always stick to a good old-fashioned makeup bag.
The benefit of these is that, of course, they are perfect if you travel frequently, as you can grab them and go!
You can always find these at the thrift store or DIY your own! Or if you want a makeup organizer with specific pockets for brushes and tools, there are options for that as well!
All of the ideas on this list are truly personal to how big your collection is, where you do your makeup, and what type of makeup storage system you can truly maintain.
I hope this list gave you plenty of options to consider as you declutter your beauty products and find a system that works for you!
