If you are looking for simple ways to make your life a bit more plastic free, sustainable bathroom products are a great place to start! I swear the kitchen and bathroom have the most plastic in my home. It seems like every soap container or cleaning spray comes in plastic and they are not always recyclable! Not to mention the sketchy chemicals that are in a lot of these products which can be harmful to our bodies and the earth.
This list is perfect if you are just starting out on your sustainable lifestyle or are looking for new eco friendly products to check out! This round up will cover sustainable personal hygiene items and eco friendly cleaning products that are safe for you and the planet.
If you begin with this list as a starting off point, you can eventually transition your whole bathroom to zero waste products!
The Best Sustainable Bathroom Alternatives
1. Reusable Razor
Don’t be intimidated! I totally was when I first considered getting a razor like this. I was scared I was going to accidentally injure myself either by shaving or swapping the blades. I promise, once you watch a youtube video or two, you will be set! It really is like riding a bike. Once you figure it out, you’re good.
This is the video I found really helpful!
Instead of throwing out a plastic razor, you can just purchase the refillable blades!
My main tips with these razors are to dry them off (so they don’t rust) and be mindful of when the razor blade is dull. Also, find a nice bar soap to pair with the razor.
Honestly, these razors are one of my favorite zero waste swaps, not just because they save plastic from going to the landfill but I also save money in the long run beacuse I am only repurchasing the blades!
2. Who Gives a Crap Toilet Paper
Imagine a toilet paper that is good to the earth and your bum!
No need to buy those huge rolls of toilet paper that are wrapped in plastic. Who Gives a Crap delivers straight to your door! They carry two types of toilet paper, one made from bamboo and the other from recycled fibers.
The best part is that the rolls come packaged in colorful paper! (which you can reuse to wrap other stuff in!)
Things I love about Who Gives a Crap:
- B Corp Certified company
- Donate 50% of their profits to charities focused on sanitation, water and hygiene
- Free carbon neutral shipping when you spend over $25
- They have expanded to tissues and paper towels too!
3. Thinx Period Underwear
Finding period underwear changed everything for me and I hope it does for you too!
Within the zero waste world, menstrual cups get a lot of attention (which they’re great so no shame!) but I think period underwear are actually better. There is no learning curve to using them and they are comfortable!
Just like menstrual cups, period underwear reduces the amount of waste you create by not having to purchase disposable period products.
All you have to do is be mindful of washing them and having enough on hand for your entire cycle. Seriously, give them a try! They have really simplified my period routine.

4. Tongue Scraper
I’m not a dentist but I have learned from dentists how important scraping your tongue is for your oral hygiene! This tongue scraper is plastic free and will add a lot of value to your oral hygiene routine.
One drawback with the reusable tongue scraper is cleanliness. With disposable tongue scrapers, you can just throw them out and get a new one. To keep your tounge scraper clean just rinse it off and store it in a toiletry bag or stasher bag! Easy solution!
5. Hey Human Deodorant
Finding a natural deodorant can be so difficult! If you haven’t tried Hey Human Deodorant, you need to! It works so well and is pretty affordable so if it doesn’t work for you its not a huge deal. Sustainable skincare takes a good amount of trial and error but I have heard from a lot of people that this deodorant has worked well for them too!
It comes in a bunch of different scents too! Hey Human deodorant is plastic free and compostable so it will fit nicely into your zero waste bathroom!
6. Blueland Cleaning Products
Plastic bottles that clutter your bathroom are a thing of the past! Blueland has every single bathroom cleaner you could possibly need and they are all refillable. When you first buy from them you can opt for spray bottles and containers or you can just use what you have at home!
Then you can order refillable tablets of soap, glass cleaner, multi-surface cleaner etc. It is SO easy and is such a simple way to not create as much waste!

7. Dr. Bronners Hand Soap
I can pretty much guarantee that there are many amazing artisans making soap at your local farmer’s market or local shops! (and you should support them!) But if you are looking for a sustainable soap that can be sent to your doorstep, Dr. Bronners is definitely the way to go. The bars come wrapped in paper and they use natural ingredients.
